Only use fuel equal to or higher than specified. Never use a lower octane fuel. Always follow our fuel guide, especially with race fuel and Ethanol, where available. Dynos are for reference only. Results will vary. Contributing factors include the vehicle condition, vehicle setup, dyno type, dyno setup, environmental factors, fuel quality, and more. When describing fuels, the North American Region (NAR) uses the Anti-Knock Index (AKI), (RON+MON)/2, or (R+M)/2. The Rest of the World (ROW) uses RON. RON is Research Octane Number and MON is Motor Octane Number. Please Note: Each vehicle's year, make, and model may have multiple factory engine or transmission controller software part numbers, known as box codes, each with unique revisions. Manufacturers periodically release software updates that alter this information, which can only be determined by scanning the controller and is not publicly provided. Due to the variety of codes, some stages, octane levels, features, or options may not be available for specific codes. Therefore, our website provides a general guide based on general info such as Year, Make, and Model. Our system allows you to request unavailable software, and we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee if you're not satisfied.

Hello! I am interested in learning more about upgrades from my 991.2 Porsche. Not very familiar with the tuning world as far as turbo's go - since I've only had NA cars before. But first, would you recommend getting a tune before bolt ons? or after bolt ons? I see this APR tune has stage 1 and stage 3 GTS tunes - is the Stage 3 only for "GTS" model porsche's or is that just the name of the tune? How much can a stock internal engine/clutch hold on a 991.2 4S? Let me know the steps on how this is normally completed so I can educate myself and hopefully get you some business in the process. Thanks!

    Answer
The tune is the first thing you should do and will net you the most power. You can bolt on other mods after with no need to retune. Unless you want to change the turbos. Then we offer "stage 3" which is for use with the GTS turbos on the base and S model. You can also buy our turbo kit which will include that tune. As for the internals, we've taken them dramatically higher than advertised, tracked the vehicle at length, and never saw an issue. Feel free to call us for more info! 334 502 5181

Driving Modes, Features, and Safety

Driving Modes - Each upgrade offers a host of improvements beyond power alone. Using Porsche’s Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus modes offers varying levels of output while retaining all of the unique characteristics present in each mode. Sport and Sport plus modes give you full power and torque. Normal mode give you modest increase over stock. Optionally quiet mode is available, which keeps the exhaust valves closed in Normal mode, unless driving rapidly. Optionally a “Low Torque” file can be requested that limits torque similarly to normal mode, but retains sport mode like peak power levels. We’ve optimized boost, fueling, ignition, cams, and more to achieve greater power and torque in all scenarios.

Features - In Sport Plus mode we’ve reduced turbo lag during reapplication of the throttle by building boost while off the throttle. We have linearized the pedal maps for a more predictable throttle response curve, which works exceptionally well on the track. We’ve enabled left foot braking, and brake boosting. The speed limiter has been removed. We’ve optimized the software to better handle larger wheels without excessive torque interventions. And finally we’ve inverted the start stop functionality so the vehicle starts with this feature disabled.

Safety - With many customers tracking their Porsche, safety is paramount in our calibration strategy. Through the use of extreme datalogging equipment and additional sensors, thermocouples, and transducers, our engineers were able to fully optimize the ECU for advanced safety routines. This includes implementing several routines not enabled from the factory. The entire thermal management system is optimized to reduce engine bay temperature, and reduce intake air temperature, while also implementing advanced protection routines to prevent oil temperature from achieving unsafe levels. The exhaust crackles disable when temperature thresholds are crossed, and are only enabled in sport mode. Next, we help protect the engine from LSPI by preventing the engine from being lugged out in tall gears. We also protect the turbo from damaging compressor surge, and add in turboshaft overspeed protection. We’ve enabled new temperature protection routines to prevent the engine, exhaust, and other components from overheating, and have implemented temperature management strategies that are fully mindful of the platform’s limited fueling capabilities. We’ve optimized the injection strategy to not only deliver a fatter torque curve and better spool, but to reduce the chances of knock, and torque dips. This is also achieved alongside per cylinder ignition advance and fuel trimming.

APR ECU Upgrade Stages

Our ECU Upgrades are available in multiple configurations. Installation of additional performance hardware, such as an intercooler or intake systems, may provide further performance improvements.

APR Stage 1

The APR Stage 1 ECU Upgrade is the first step towards tuning your engine. It produces up to 477-542 HP and 465-546 FT-LBS of torque with gains as high as +80-137 HP and +97-171 FT-LBS of torque at the wheels. Optionally manual transmission customers can request a lower torque file to help promote longevity on the factory clutch. Sport mode will have similar peak power, but torque will be capped similar to normal mode.

APR Stage 1 is available for 91 AKI, 93 AKI, 100 AKI, 104 AKI, and E60-E85 fuel grades in North America, and 95 RON, 98 RON, 104 RON, 108 RON, and E60-E85 in the Rest of the World.

Please note, our E85 software is not a full flex fuel program. In this mode the engine is only designed to work on E85, as found directly at the pump, including both summer and winter blends from E60-E85. Using traditional pump fuels in this mode may result in engine damage. Do not manually blend with traditional pump fuel or race fuels or use race specific barrels of E85. To ensure proper E85 content levels, APR recommends using an E85 content sensor. Before using Ethanol, educate yourself and follow our switching guide.

APR Plus

APR Plus is our APR Stage 1 ECU Upgrade with our limited powertrain warranty and it’s the first step towards tuning your engine. It produces up to 477 HP and 465 FT-LBS of torque with gains as high as +80 HP and +97 FT-LBS of torque at the wheels. Please check our warranty manual to understand modifications supported by APR Plus.

APR Stage 3 (GTS)

The APR Stage 3 ECU Upgrade is the next step towards tuning your engine. It produces up to 520-615 HP and 524-594 FT-LBS of torque with gains as high as +120-211 HP and +150-223 FT-LBS of torque at the wheels, and with added cooling it produces up to 565-648 HP and 548-594 FT-LBS of torque with gains as high as +162-244 HP and +170-223 FT-LBS of torque at the wheels. Use this tune with the Porsche Carrera GTS turbochargers. Optionally manual transmission customers can request a lower torque file to help promote longevity on the factory clutch. Sport mode will have similar peak power, but torque will be capped similar to normal mode.

APR Stage 3 GTS is available for 91 AKI, 93 AKI, 100 AKI, 104 AKI, and E60-E85 fuel grades in North America, and 95 RON, 98 RON, 104 RON, 108 RON, and E60-E85 in the Rest of the World.

Porsche Rear Engine Dyno Testing Notes - This engine is extremely sensitive to intake air temperature (IAT) due to the rear engine and rear cooling design. Power figures on a stationary dyno will vary wildly with limited airflow compared to real world conditions. As IAT increases the calibration will intentionally reduce power to protect the engine.
