APR Motorsport Prepares for Round 4 of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at Virginia International Raceway April 24

APR Motorsport Prepares for Round 4 of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at Virginia International Raceway April 24

APR Motorsport to Field 4 Cars and Present Jason Arahna to Drive the New VW MKVI GTi During Saturday’s Race

After bringing home its second consecutive Street Tuner top 10 finish, APR Motorsport moves onto picturesque Virginia International Raceway on a quest for their first podium of the season. The potential for success at VIR is high as Mike Sweeney, driver of the 171 APR Motorsport VW DriverGear GTi, proved at Barber by running in the top 3 throughout his stint.

VIR is also a special race for the APR Motorsport/ VW DriverGear team as it is the home track for Volkswagen of America. The drivers of all three APR Motorsport GTi’s are eager to treat partners at VW DriverGear to a good result at their home track. “I’m really proud to be representing VW DriverGear, you couldn’t ask for a better partner to go racing with and we’re going to dig deep to bring home a great result for them here,” said Mike Sweeney driver of the 171 car. Kevin Stadtlander driver of the 181 car is also eager for a good result, “I love this track, it’s a beautiful place to go racing, and with it being VW DriverGear’s home, I would love to have our first podium here. We’ve been so close with a 5th at Homestead and getting hit out of 4th at Daytona, I’m confident we can break through here at VIR.”

For Josh Hurley, driver of the 181 car, VIR holds a special meaning, “I started my first professional car race here in the Volkswagen TDI Cup, I also grabbed my first professional pole position at that same race, so it is always a bit special coming back to where my professional car racing career began, and where my relationship with Volkswagen began too! “

The VIR race will also mark the Grand Am debut of Jason Aranha, who will share the new MKVI VW GTi with APR President Stephen Hooks. APR Director of Motorsport, Jeff Mishtawy, shared his thoughts on Jason joining the team, “We had the pleasure of working with Jason during our pre-season testing program. His speed was quite impressive and he was a perfect fit for our team. I’m just glad the timing came together and we’re finally able to get him in an APR Motorsport GTi!” Jason shared his excitement on joining the team as well, “I really enjoyed working with them and the engineering that has gone into the cars is incredible. I’ve been lucky to work with some well turned out racing teams, including Williams F1, and I get the same sense of professionalism here.”

In addition to the three car effort in Street Tuner, APR Motorsport will also be running an Audi S4 in the Grand Sport class. The S4, like the MkVI, is also in its first year of development but has already shown excellent pace with two top 5 qualifying efforts and running much of the Barber race in the top 3 positions.
