Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant

Department: Finance/Accounting

Reports to: Accounting Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervises: NA

Position Summary:  Applies generally accepted accounting principles and procedures to classify, record, and examine records of financial transactions.   Analyzes and interprets financial data and prepares timely and accurate financial statements and reports.

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of three years of work experience in an accounting-related position; cost accounting and inventory experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills including intermediate knowledge of ERP systems, Excel, and Word
  • Self-starter with the ability to both function as a team player and work independently
  • Must be detail-oriented, accurate, and able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with employees at all levels in the organization as well as customers and suppliers

Qualifications desired:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and/or Exact MAX ERP
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Perform month-end close activities and ensure that all necessary journal entries and transactions are entered and posted to the general ledger
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts and flash reports
  • Manage inventory processes and controls including monitoring the cycle counting process and inventory accounts/transactions as well as ensuring necessary adjustments and corrections are posted timely
  • Analyze and make recommendations regarding product costs and margins
  • Periodically analyze and update inventory material, overhead and labor rates to ensure accurate product costing
  • Maintain and improve processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs and inventory valuation
  • Review and update manufacturing BOM’s and organize and oversee periodic BOM audits
  • Manage fixed asset process including processing additions, disposals, depreciation and related schedules
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting-related policies and procedures by others in the organization
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
  • Maintain up-to-date work instructions for all responsibilities of the position
  • Cross-train with and assist other accounting staff as needed
  • Other special projects and duties as assigned by management
  • Assist with budget preparation and prepare and analyze monthly budget vs. actual reports
  • Prepare and analyze monthly sales forecast vs. actual reports
  • Assist with annual audit including developing and maintaining audit schedules

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Physical demands: Ability to lift and move at least 25 lbs., sit for long periods working on a computer, climb stairs, stand for long periods, and walk short distances.
  • Work Environment: Includes both an indoor office environment and a warehouse environment which may be significantly colder or warmer than a normal indoor office setting.  There may be brief period of loud noise from machinery.

Performance Standards:

  • Required to work a standard 40-hour work week and over-time as needed including occasional weekends
  • Attainment of annual goals established between supervisor and employee
  • Annual performance appraisal for administrative level
